Welcome to Our New UniServ Director

 Welcome to our new UniServ Director, Andy Thompson! Andy is a recent retiree from Harrisonburg City Schools where he was a PE Teacher and President of the Harrisonburg Education Association. He joins our UniServ Secretary Amy Moyers in the UniServ Offfice in Harrisonburg. His contact information is included under the Valley UniServ Leadership tab on the right side of this blog. 

Andy is ready to help with members who have a problem or concern. He and the RCEA Leadership Team met with Dr. Shifflett of Rockingham County Schools earlier this month. Andy and the Leadership Team look forward to hearing from you and sharing any schoolwide concerns with the superintendent. 

NEEDED: OFFICERS FOR THE RCEA!

 To all RCEA Members:

Wee need YOU! We are looking for members to become officers of the RCEA! There is training available from the VEA for you to learn more about the positions. The different ones are:

President: Current office holder is Nancy Bassett, who is also the District D President. Her position consists of being the contact person to the VEA; and, she also speaks before the Rockingham County School Board. 

Vice-President:Current office holder is Heather D'Ames. Her position consisits of helping the President with conducting member meetings and helps plan activities.

Secretary: Open position! The secretary takes notes of meetings and sends out information on events to members.

Treasurer:  Open position! Current office holder is Amy Harris, also a member of VEA Retired. The treasurer collects the dues from the RCPS Payroll (a check is sent via Jennifer Dellinger), pays the UniServ and VEA Dues and keeps a record of expenses as well as writing all necessary checks.

Read Across America 2024

 Come join us on March 1, 2024 at Barnes and Noble in Harrisonburg for the SHS Educators Rising and RCEA Annual Read Across America Event! The fun begins at 6:00 pm and goes until 7:30 pm. There will be books to read, High School students to share books with kids and refreshments. Who knows? The Cat in the Hat may appear! We will have cookies and juice and other things to enjoy! Let's have some fun with books!

Fun Time at Clementine's Cafe!

Thank you to those who attend the recent RCEA Event at Clementine's Cafe! It was a fun time for all! Food, fun and handing out of Door Prizes and other gifts! If you were unable to attend, we missed seeing you. It is always nice to put faces and names together! Be on the lookout for the next RCEA Event, Read Across America set for the beginning of March. We would love to see you come out with your kids or grandkids and enjoy cookies, juice and reading! Hope to see you there! 

RCEA Officers Needed

The Rockiingham County Education Association  is in need of officers to help with events and recruiting new members. At this point there are only TWO officers who are handling everything, from being President, Treasurer, working on the Blog Post, going to the Rockingham County New Teacher Orientation and even going to School Board Meetings. 

We need help from members to be contacts at their school to hand out gifts and make sure everyone knows what events are coming up. Stand up and let us know if you will help! WE NEED YOU!

VEA Lobby Day 2023

Nancy Bassett, RCEA President, and Amy Harris, RCEA Treasurer, attended the VEA Lobby Day on January 16, 2023 in Richmond, VA. The day began with a Rally at the Bell Tower at 9:00am, where we met with other attendees from around the state and heard many speakers, including Delegate Barker, Delegate Locke and Delegate Maldonado. VEA President Dr. James J. Fedderman led the rally.

After the rally, Nancy and Amy went to visit and speak with the Delegates and Senators from their areas concerning education bills coming up in the Delegate Assembly this year. They met with Delegate Tony Wilt, Delegate John Avoli and Senator Emmet Hanger. Delegate Avoli has a bill he is sponsoring to get more ELL teachers into school buildings.
