The New RCEA Officers Welcome Everyone Back to a New School Year!

The new RCEA Officers welcome everyone back to a new school year! We enjoyed meeting with the county's newest teachers on August 9 at the New Teacher Orientation. Many stayed after their long day to hear from Anne Scott, Jay Deck, Kishis Tutt, Amy Harris and Debra Bontz. We encourage all our members to learn about the new teachers in their school and let them know you are an RCEA member! We have had so many come to us as officers and say, "We were looking for you but did not know who to talk to or where to find you!" Let teachers, new ones and ones who have been with the county, know who you are! It just takes a few minutes to say hello and introduce yourself. If they have questions, direct them to this blog and to the VEA website at www.veanea.org or to the NEA website at www.nea.org. You should also check out all the Member Benefits available to members at www.neamb.org! There are a whole host of coupons and vendors who would love to help with car and home insurance and even credit cards. Check it out! If you have any questions about anything, contact any of the RCEA Officers or Valley UniServ Office in Harrisonburg. Check the links on the right side to find out phone number and address for Jay Deck and Amy Moyers.

Have a great school year!

Welcome Back to a New School Year

The RCEA Officers welcomes everyone back to a new school year! Here are some announcements from the officers for the beginning of the year:
1. RCEA Members please let Amy Harris, RCEA Treasurer, know of any changes to your information, such as change in schools, change in address or phone number. Changes need to be to Amy by August 31. There are changes in the dues for 2018-2019:
Full-time Teachers = $55.00 a month
Half-Time Teachers = $28.65 a month
ESP/Teacher Full-Tme Assistants = $29.55 a month
ESP/Half-Time Assistants = $16.20 a month
*New dues begin with the September paycheck

2. The VEA would prefer sending information/news to your personal e-mail rather than school e-mail; so, if you are comfortable with sending it to Amy Harris for VEA, please let her know.
3. The RCEA Officers will be at the RCPS New Teacher Orientation at Broadway High School on August 9. Our presentation will be at around 3:00pm. If you are a member and know of a new teacher in your school, introduce yourself and invite them to become a member!

If you have questions at anytime, feel free to contact any of the RCEA Officers! Amy Harris will answer any membership questions.

RCEA Scholarship Fund
You have already seen a message from Lauren Strawderman about the RCEA Scholarship Fund, which is collecting donations now. Consider giving to this fund as it is used to help high school seniors, one from each of the Rockingham County High Schools, who are interested in pursuing a degree in education. With a donation of $5.00 you can honor a teacher who had an impact on you, one who is retiring from your school; or, give in memory of a teacher who has passed on. The RCEA Scholarship Committee includes Lauren Strawderman (JWES), Kishia Tutt (MMS) and Nancy Bassett (MMS). Lauren is collecting the donations. Please give and help the RCEA help future educators!

Thank you!
RCEA Sending Delegates to VEA Convention
The Rockingham County Education Association is sending three delegates to the annual VEA Convention to be held in Hampton, Virginia this year. The Convention runs April 19-21, 2018. The delegates are: Anne Scott, Kishia Tutt and Nancy Bassett. Lauren Strawderman will also attend as a visitor to the Convention. At the VEA Convention delegates from all the locals across the state will hear and pass resolutions and vote on possible legislative matters for the next fiscal year, which begins in August. To find out more about the VEA Convention and learn about the pre-meetings taking place, click here.
During the Convention the VEA runs a blog to keep members up-to-date on what is happening! Check it out!
